Scientists had long thought that once a person reaches adulthood, the brain no longer grows new cells.
Scientists at the Salk Institute for Biological Studies in San Diego and the Sahlgrenska University Hospital in Sweden have discovered that new cells do grow deep within the center of the brain, the hippocampus.
This finding will someday lead to new treatments for many neurological diseases, such as Parkinson's and Alzheimer's.
