When you dream sometimes you wake up thinking that you have just about fallen off an object e.g. down the stairs. I have experienced this a lot, often I shake violently as you would if you were about too fall to your death. One of my friends also told me he has experienced this and he believes that or some of our ancestors who used to sleep on hammocks used this instinct to wake up just before they fall. That is just his explanation; I myself have no idea why this occurs and can find no scientific explanation to prove why this happens either.

Do any of you guys experience this or something similar? I would really like to know.

I know exactly what you mean, it's always something stupid for me like falling off the bus or off a pavement but you wake up thinking you're actually falling and you brace yourself for the pain. It usually occurs when you think you're awake but you're actually asleep.

Interesting...I can't remember ever feeling like I was falling because of a dream, but i've had dreams where I'm drowning and I wake up, and jolt up in bed, gasping for air...there's also been other dreams that have caused me to wake up and start running in fear...it's weird when that kinda stuff happens...

I have also had the exact same experience of thinking I was drowning in my sleep too. Freaky stuff

I think I must do that because I sometimes wake up on the floor...but then I'm a terrible sleep-walker.
