I am a 60 year old man that loves to play video games. I used to have a PS-2 but gave it away to a couple of kids who didn't have one. I have since played PC games like Mech Warriors. Can anyone give me some advice on games like Halo, etc. I am new to the XBox and don't know anything about it at all. My sweet wife just bought me an XBox.

What game types do you like to play?

Never criticize someone until you have walked a mile in their shoes. That way when you do criticize them you will be a mile away, and you will have their shoes.
You live for the fight when that's all that you've got.
If life gives you lemons, find someone whose life has given them vodka, and have a party...and don't forget to invite me.
You, me, or nobody is gonna hit as hard as life. But it ain't how hard you hit; it's about how hard you can get hit, and keep moving forward. How much you can take, and keep moving forward.

Thanks for the reply. My favorite game of all time is both the Diablo games. I played them about 200 times. I like the Mech Warrior series on the PC right now. Typically I like role playing games where you shoot the monsters. I like games with quests in them. I am not much into sports simulation games. More interested in adventure warrior type games.
Hope you can give me some good advice. I think I will start out with Halo. My XBox is a 360 but I understand it plays the old XBox games as well. I have a 65 inch DLP TV that I am going to hook it up to so it should be an awesome picture. Can't wait to get it delivered.
Any help you can give me will be appreciated.

Halo and Halo 2 are both good shooters. RPG wise some good ones for Xbox include Morrowind, Oblivion, Fable, and Knights of the Old Republic 1 and 2, granted the first three don't involve the use of guns. Another good RPG is Fallout Tactic, but that is for the computer rather than Xbox.

I should point out that you will need to have your 360 connected to the internet in order to download the proper emulation files neccesary to play original Xbox games, they are completly free though. If you don't have any way of connecting your 360 to the internet then you should stick with buying 360 games as opposed to original Xbox games. it should be easy enough to connect to the internet, just disconnect your internet cable and plug it in the back of the 360. Note that Halo 2 does not require you to download anything to play it.
Anyways, some 360 games that are great fun and fit the bill of what you enjoy:
Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion
Gears of War
Some original Xbox games that you would enjoy in the order I would reccomend them:
Halo 2
Ninja Gaiden Black
Fable
The Chronicles of Riddick: Escape From Butcher Bay (Actually, is very good, unlike most movie-inspired games)
Freedom Fighters
Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic (Also on PC)
Hope that helps a bit

Shadowrun is a mediocre game at best, there is nothing special about it and it has little lasting appeal. Sure it's got some nice flashy effects but that's about it.

I would go as far to say The Chronicles of Riddick: Escape From Butcher Bay is one of the best Xbox games ever. The best for me is definitely Ninja Gaiden Black, but people find that game to be very hard though(my little brother can't get past the first level in fact). If you are into shooters than Halo 2 is the best one on Xbox and believe me it's addictive, especially if you play online.

I will pretend you didn't say that.
Even though it's true.. I haven't played it for a while.

Chipping in with my suggestions:
Call of Duty 2 and 3 are excellent FPS games. (Of which, I think CoD 3 is more fun.)
Quake 4 is another good shooter. Multiplayer sucks, but campaign is a lot of fun.
I'd also suggest you stay away from Lost Planet. Repetitive, bad story line, and more or less consists of boss battle after boss battle. Not particularly fun, IMO.

Completely agreed. Elder Scrolls IV and Fable are the games I think you would enjoy most from what you have said. But Chronicles of Riddick combines everything from FPS to RPG to Stealth to Beat em Up. It is remarkable.

You may also enjoy Star Wars Battle Front, if you're into that kind of thing.
Meh, that game was ok. The second one was a lot better so I'd go with that one myself.
