Anyone following the situation in Iran?

Uh... the strong possibility of the Presidential election being rigged and the small matter of protests on the scale that have not been seen in the country since the last revolution.

I don't really watch the news. They just talk about all the $%^&* that's going horribly wrong with the world.

Besides, didn't people accuse that one Bush election of being rigged? What do you expect out of Iran?

Well, this world is pretty f**ked and if they didn’t report negative news, well, they wouldn’t be a news channel then. Plus, you don’t need a television for news.

Yes, Al Gore statistically got more votes but this topic isn’t about that. What I hope of Iran? I hope that the people get the outcome they desire without any more bloodshed. But that’s extremely doubtful. sad.gif

Excuse the double post, but I’m intrigued on the stance of avoiding the news because of its negativity. What do you do when things in life do not go according to plan?

I DO something about them. But I don't really think I can do much to make sure that the elections in Iran go as democratically as possible.

That's why I really stay away from most of the news. It's not that I don't care, it's just that I don't need to have my mind assaulted by how everything everywhere is horrible. Right now, my concerns are being happy with my girlfriend, trying to find a decent job for when my current one ends, and trying to get a loan to buy a house. If there's a serial killer loose somewhere, or people waging war somewhere, or a friggin radioactive penguin apocalypse about to descend upon half the world, it won't help me to know about it. >.<

Fair enough. In my opinion, people should just be aware that things of this scale are currently happening in this world. Apathy breeds ignorance and we’re just giving these people who are committing atrocities a free pass, because nobody will care.

Anyways, I see what you're saying. I'm very much against ignorance, which makes my stance hypocritical, in a way. But I still keep my platter full, so it's not like I'm in a closet in the dark with my hands over my ears.

I think what is happening in Iran shows the weakness of Theocracy. It seems that it was a bad idea since conception. Are there even any positives of Theocracy?

I don't think there has ever been any good systems of Theocracy, then again nothing else seems to work for long either. Then again (again) at least with secular states you don't have people waging war over holy books and which one is right.
