I left out the arcade games.

The Mario Kart series is one of the greatest racing series created; it's funny, intense, and addictive. Each game has it's own merits and weaknesses, so which one is your favourite and why?

For me, I have to go with Mario Kart 64. This game was unbalanced, got a few crap reviews (though it's Gamerankings average is a solid 87%) and had mediocre graphics; however it offered the most pure fun. And that is the only thing that matters in the end. I spent hundreds of hours in that game, from blowing up my friends atop of Skyscraper and down Block Fort, to intense photo finishes on Rainbow Road, to learning the cheap shortcuts through Wario Stadium.

An honourable mention goes to Mario Kart DS, for offering the most intense Mario Kart experience; and if it wasn't so short-lived a game would probably be my #1.

I'm going to have to say the Wii.

Mainly because I like the steering wheels...

I've only played one Mario Kart, the one for the Wii. It is a wonderful game, and my girlfriend is addicted to it. So, we play it almost daily. There are some things I don't like.

I have to say, I don't like the steering wheel. I simply play with the Gamecube control. Call me old fashioned >.<

Also, I don't like the weapons settings. If the weapons are balanced, then the CPUs end up lagging a lot behind the human players, and then it's just no fun. But if the weapons are aggressive, then it's less about skill and more about timing; you have to get into 1st late in the game, so that ablue shell doesn't get you.

My favorite is Super Mario Kart. I have many happy memories about it because Chazz aka Eraserhead and I used to play it all the time when we we were little. My second favorite would be Mario Kart Wii.

Mario kart 64 offered me the most fun and I felt it had the best tracks. However I do like Mario Kart Wii because of the steering wheel and like etile I play it almost daily with my girlfriend. Her choice-Bowser Jr, mine- Luigi.

Nice. I always play as Toad, on the Quacker. The Quacker can turn on a dime, man.

I went to my uni's Mario Kart society, thought it would be bemusing

Absolute hilarity, 8 way on the DS version, vulgar cursing from all directions and from 8th to first and back again every few minuets
i got a bit of criticism for having an R4 instead of buying the game but other than that it was a fantastically strange atmosphere as none of us were particularly avid gamers

then we went to the pub

Epilog; Mario Kart DS is my favorite

It's hardware for the DS that allows you to run your own software, such as a new OS, homebrew, and thus pirated games.

I have every character on Mario Kart Wii except Dry Bowser so I'm going to make it my mission to get him.
