this really should be in paranormal phenomenon’s... but meh
personally I don’t believe in reincarnation, once your dead your gone for good, afterlife may be possible, but I’m strange, although I have some religious beliefs I am also a strong believer that everything must have scientific proof. there would have to be some scientific way for our subconscious to survive after our physical bodies, or shells, expire...

I belief neither in afterlife nor in reincarnation. I'm content with the fact that in the day my heart stops beating, my consciousness, along with all my worries and mundane burden will drift into oblovion, in a final, eternal slumber. Did I just write this? How melodramatic of me. Anyway, there's a verse in the old testement that supports my belief: "Honour thy father and thy mother, as the LORD thy God hath commanded thee; that thy days may be prolonged, and that it may go well with thee, in the land which the LORD thy God giveth thee" (Deutronomy 5:16). It says that your reward for good behaviour will be extended lifespan, rather than a reward post mortem, in the afterlife. Moreover, the word 'hell' never appeared in the bible. Not that I'm a religious person.

well theres also scriptures in the bible that can prove your theory wrong.
Im thinking this scripture off the top of my head so it may not be exact with the words and chapter and verse
Revelations 3:22 And if ye over come even as i have over come ye can sit down with me in my throne even as i am sat down with my fater in his throne.
its something like that, it basically means if you obey gods commandments you can live with him

I think there's been some misunderstanding. What I meant is that in the Old Testament, there's no reference to any kind of afterlife whatsoever. Yet, I admit, in more recent texts, e.g. the New Testament and the Koran, there are explicit referance to an afterlife:
In the New textament: “. . . God spared not angels when they sinned, but cast them down to hell, and committed them to pits of darkness, to be reserved unto judgment . . .” (2 Pet. 2:4).
In the Koran: "They do not taste death, beyond the first death, and God spares them the retribution of Hell." 44:56
"Do NOT say about those who are killed in the cause of God, "They are dead." For they are alive, but you do not perceive." 2:154
I just pointed out that the Old Testament supports my belief, though my belief is not based upon religious considerations, but rather on scientific considerations. Moreover, I don't believe in anything that can't be measured or confirmed by scientific observations, and esp. reincarnation.

QUOTE(sly rogue @ May 26 2004, 10:23 PM)
how can u believe all the bible? it wasnt god himself who wrote it not evan jesus
people believe in things becuase they were ethier brought up to believe it or becuase they believe in what that particular religion or statement says.
you could easily say something like "why do you believe that you are not dreaming your life right now?" and you have no more proof of the fact you are or are not as anyone who has faith in something being questioned.
ask yourself what proof you have you are not dreaming this... what if your really in a coma and this world is not real. maybe in the "real" world, you can feel pain whilst in a coma or sleeping...
then ask yourself what proof you have that there is no god. just becuase there i no proof of something does not mean that it cannot be possible. eventually it will most likely be proven right or wrong.
the person who wrote the bible is no more or less significant than the person who thought up the religion itself. the person had faith in the religion and was guided by visions and thoughts... i doubt he just said to himself "i think i will write a religious book about some random religion this afternoon and sell it to earn millions of dollars" there was a reason behind the writing of the bible, what it exactly is no one knows, we can only speculate.

I believe in reincarnation. I think that after you die you do to another plain of existance(your soul anyways) and eventually you come back to this plain of existance. I belive this because I doubt that souls are just created and destroyed at birth and death. I t is too wasteful for a universe that recycles everything.
